What is a freelance quote?
A freelance quote is a document that outlines the cost of a project before work begins. It tells the client exactly what they'll get, how much it'll cost, and when it'll be done - all in one clear format.
A professional quote does more than state a number. It frames your pricing in the context of value, shows the client you understand their needs, and sets the tone for the working relationship.
When should you use one?
Every time a potential client asks "how much?" - whether it's a quick email enquiry or a formal RFQ. Even for small projects, a written quote prevents the "I thought it would be cheaper" conversation later.
What's included
Client and project details - who the quote is for and a brief summary of the project as you understand it.
Scope of work - what's included in the price. Break it down into clear line items.
Pricing - the total cost with a breakdown by deliverable or phase. State whether GST is included.
Payment terms - deposit amount, milestone payments, and final payment due date.
Validity period - how long the quote is valid for. Typically 14-30 days.
Acceptance - space for the client to sign and accept the quote, turning it into a commitment to proceed.
