What is a video production agreement?
A video production agreement is a contract for freelance videographers, video editors, and motion designers. Video projects involve multiple stages - pre-production, filming, and post-production - each with its own scope and cost implications. This template covers all three.
When should you use one?
Any video project - corporate videos, social media content, event coverage, promotional films, product videos, interviews, training videos, or animation work. Whether you're handling the full production or just the edit.
What's included
Production scope - number of shoot days, locations, crew requirements, and equipment. Clearly separates pre-production, production, and post-production deliverables.
Deliverables and formats - final video length, number of edits/cuts, export formats (e.g. 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels), resolution, and delivery method.
Revision rounds - how many rounds of edit revisions are included, and what constitutes a revision versus a structural change that requires re-editing.
Raw footage - whether the client gets the raw footage or just the final edit. Many videographers keep raw footage unless the client pays extra.
Usage rights and licensing - where the client can use the video (social media, website, broadcast, paid advertising) and for how long.
Cancellation and weather - what happens if a shoot day is cancelled, rescheduled, or affected by weather. Covers cancellation fees and rescheduling terms.
